We found out the name of his teacher Mrs. Muller that was exciting enough for him, then he could tell you her name!. The week before we went and met her and saw inside the class room. Those 4 days between meeting her and starting were killer to him. Then the big day came. He was super excited. He was up before the alarm and was dressed in 1 minute flat.
He told his Dad this is how kindergartners stand....
He ate his breakfast at the table with his backpack on. He was super excited to get his lunch in his Batman lunch box. We carefully put the food in the box, making sure it would fit just right. Then Garrett woke up and we got ready to go to school. Garrett needed to be in a picture and wanted to stand like his brother!
Makes me smile to think of these to as constant companions. Poor Garrett his never really known life with out his big bro.
Anyway off we went in our car and the boys were laughing and talking the whole way. Then we pulled up in front of the school and Brady said in a small voice, "Mom I'm a little bit scared, and I'm going to miss you." Dang it! I hadn't even started to cry yet! I just told myself to keep it together and not let him see you upset. So I told him the day would go by fast and that we would see each other before he knew it! Then we got out of the car and joined Dad who of course wanted to be apart of the action.
I think he is starting to look nervous by the way he won't let go of his dad and brother, a slew of kids were coming off the bus walking towards us but we kept up our brave faces and walked to his classroom.
I think he was over the picture taking and just wanted to get it over with and walk in to the room. Once inside he showed his dad where his cubby was, took his lunch box out and put it on the shelf and showed his Dad and brother were he was going to be sitting. He sat down and saw his art box there and a first day of school booklet he could color. He started on it and we met the parents of the kids sitting at his table. One offered to take our family picture after she asked if he was our "oldest"- first timer must have been written all over our faces.
Then we found what bus he'd ride home and we hugged him good bye and left! I got two steps out side the classroom and tears started to come. But with some deep breaths and a loving husband who put his arm around me and gave me a big hug I made it to the car with no tears running down my face!
The day was a long day I waited and waited for him to come home. Garrett and I played a game of Candyland, and I bowled with him on the Wii, then we went to a lunch at a friends house for back to school friends. Which was a life saver! Then he came home, which I totally missed him coming off the bus! They said it would probably be late and I was getting ready to walk out to wait at the stop and my good friend/neighbor comes walking him home! Thank you Abby! The stop is at her house (3 doors down) and the bus was 5 mins. early!
The first day report by Brady:
Me: How was it?
Brady:Good, can I eat lunch now?
Me: You ate at school remember? Its close to dinner lets get a snack. Did you meet anyone?
Brady: Um.I think so but I can't remember.
Me: Who did you sit by at lunch?
Brady: There was a boy with the SAME lunch box as me! We sat together but I don't remember his name.
Me: Oh good maybe you'll be friends, what was your favorite part of the day?
Brady: Outside play time, guess what I saw friends there! (He named all his friends from church that were out there at the same time)
We couldn't get much more out of him but he was super tired by the evening time and went to bed easily. First day I think was a success!
