Have you ever had moments when you have no idea what you just did would have an unfavorable consequence? We all have right? My sister after she had a baby once told me how she started to put her iron away-in the freezer. We have days where we must be on overload and things start to get a little fuzzy.
Last night was one of those.
I went to bed like any other night, we checked on the boys and I checked to make sure the heater was on in our house since I thought it may get cold that night. Kissed the husband good night and drifted off to dream land. Well at 4:30 a.m. the door to our bed room creaks open and our youngest son comes in whimpering, "I'mmm soooo cold! I want the heater." He is begging to get into bed with us, so I at first just thought he got up for no reason, but as we got to his room it felt like a freezer. Why the heck was it so cold in here?! The sheets felt like ice, and he started to get up set when I put him on the bed, "My pillow is cold!!" So I told him to wait there and I would go and get our space heater. I ran to our bathroom (the coldest room in our house) and grabbed it. I put the setting to turn off when the room was 70 degrees, climbed into bed with him to warm him up with body heat. The poor boy curled up and didn't move for about 15 mins. but also couldn't sleep yet, he was still in de-thaw mode. Once I could tell the room was heating up and I thought he was asleep I crept back to my room.
A couple mins. later I was still awake because I was worrying about leaving a space heater on to long, what if it starts a fire or something?! At 5:00 a.m. I don't think rationally either. So I did the next best thing, I nudge Brad, "Are you awake?"
He half asleep, "huh, yeah what, what is it?"
Me," I can't sleep what if the heater starts a fire, should I go turn it off?"
Him," Uh no I'll go and check on him."
Me, "OK thanks."
He gets up and goes and checks on him and says Garrett is still awake, and that he will go and lay with him till he falls back asleep.
We all fall asleep and when we wake with the sun Brad looks at our house thermometer to see it blinking at him a balmy 62 degrees! Wow, that is colder than I keep it, and when he went into our bathroom he looked at our clock that also has the temperature and it was 57 degrees in there!!!
When I "checked" the heater the night before I switched it off thinking I was making sure it was on! How absent minded is that?! We turned the house heater back on and the space heater on in the bathroom so my poor frozen husband could take a shower. Please tell me I am not the only one who has had these moments?
I will say about our oldest son, Brady, this just attests to his deep sleeping habits, slept the whole night through with out a complaint and got up happy as a lark not knowing what the heck was going on.
Spring I'm glad you are here, warmer days means less frigid days for my family. They thank you, and hope your friend Summer is right around the corner.

I had a 'mother of the year' moment a while back. I had just walked the girls to school and we were waiting for Mia's bell to ring. I had the 2 boys in my double jogger. The school bell rang, I gave Mia a hug and she ran to class. I was waiting for my friend to gather her little ones back into her double jogger and I moved over to help her. Apparently my stroller wasn't completely locked and the next thing I know is some asian grandma is pointing and yelling, "Baby! Baby!" I turn around to see my boys in the stroller rolling down the hill and into the street! Thankfully cars were going very slow and there were none close by. So much for thinking I had locked the stroller.
PS. So to answer your question...no, you are not alone. ;)
I'm just catching up with blogs. You are so funny, and yes.. been there!!! left the water dripping, forgot to turn the dishwasher on, forgot to turn off curling irons, and yes.. i've even forgotten about the dog in the car! Yikes!! (at least I haven't forgotten about the kids in the car).
love you and miss you!!!
If this is your worst moment as a mom, consider yourself heaven blessed. Unlike Raina, I HAVE forgotten a kid in the car. Luckily it wasn't hot out and Annie (about two years old) was fast asleep in the back seat of the van. She wanted to come when I took Scott to his karate lesson so I let her climb into the car (without being buckled into a car seat, no less). She must have fallen asleep in the back on the way because I completely forgot she was in the car. Took Scott into his lesson (45 minutes) and when I came back out, there she was in the window of the car just looking around. I've never completely lost the sickening feeling that I had in my stomach as I contemplated what could have happened. THAT one earns me "worst mother ever".
