The Last Lecture

We had a book group the other night that I attended, it was really good. The book they had chosen was The Last Lecture, I had not read it but was invited so I thought I'd try it out. I'm so glad that I did, I asked to borrow the book and have started into it, its really thought provoking. This man Randy finds out that he has cancer and he knows that he's not going to beat it. As a professor at this Ivy League College he gives a Last Lecture. He talks about really achieving your childhood dreams. This started the discussion of what our dreams where as a child. What we wanted to be when we "grew up" I thought about how I wanted to do some many different things, and thankfully my parents let me try it all. My parents are cool that way if I wanted to dance they let me dance, if I wanted to try swimming they let me. After the book club I really started thinking off all the different things I have tried, I have decided I'm a very blessed person to have tried learning so many new things. I may not have perfected any of them but I tried the best that I could at the time.
At the same time my friends on "Facebook" have been tagging each other left and right about 25 interesting things about them selves. So I thought since I have not really complied with the "tag" I would here post 25 different things that I have been blessed with the opportunity to try out. Once again thanks mom and dad for letting me.........well-TRY:
1. Ballet (twice if I remember correctly)
2. Piano (my sister still can play)
3. basketball
4. Karate ( got to a purple belt)
5. Swimteam
6. Cheerleading (um....no comment)
7. Gymnastics
8. Cross country
9. Track team
10. Caving
11. Rock climbing/repelling
12. Traveling- France, England, Italy...to name a few
13. Racquetball
14 Clogging
15. Violin Lessons
16. Voice Lesson (still can't sing)
17. horse back riding
18. Snuba diving
19. Went to a NasCar race ( thanks dad!)
20. Skiing (down hill and cross country)
21. Snow shoeing
22. Hiked Angel's Landing at Zions National Park (discovered Brad's afraid of heights)
23. Snowmoblied through Yosemite National Park
24. Ice skating Lessons
25. Snorkling in Hawaii
As you can see I'll try just about anything once.....well let me revise that my mom jumped out of a plane 3 years ago and I have NO desire to do that. This is all I could think of off the top of my head I'm sure there's more out there, but it has made me feel like I have lived a blessed life and I have many lessons to pass on to our boys. Maybe I'll write a book someday......

Dana, I loved that book and agree that it had nuggets of wisdom. You have been a well rounded person and always gave each thing you undertook to do your best. I hope you never lose that enthusiasm to experience what life has to offer. Maybe someday when your boys are all grown up we can do a skydive together. Oh wait, I'll be how old?!? Oh well...

My husband read the last lecture and said it was amazing. The professor taught here in pittsburgh I believe. I should read it but haven't yet because I know I'll cry my eyes out, but....maybe I will now!

I love you Dana! Try to get Brad to do more than just Basketball. I'll do some things with you when we finally have money.
