Baby Bones

I thought this year we weren't having any babies or major surgeries so that our medical bills would be less than last years.  I was wrong.  We got into the new year two days and Brad woke up in horrible pain at 4:00 a.m. Kidney stone, yuck.  He has had one before and I hate them, I am sure he hates them even more.  He always looks like he is in so much pain and there is nothing I can do about it.  My parents were luckily with us still from Christmas they were scheduled to leave that day and head back home.  When I snuck into their room to tell them that I had to drive Brad to the ER they agreed to listen for the kids when they woke up.  Off we went a CT scan, an IV and a few drugs later we were assured it was indeed a kidney stone and he would make it in the end.  With strict instructions to stay off caffeine and all dark sodas we were sent home with the hope it would pass soon.  At least when women go into labor they have something to look forward to at the end of it all, poor people who have these stones, all that pain and nothing great to show for it!  I thought OK this is the end of it we will have a good year this year.
Little did I know that in February little Miss Jillian our would be mountain climber would have a fall and break her collar bone.  It was an accident, I was distracted and forgot to take the ladder off the bunk beds after friends had left and she climbed up the ladder.  I heard a thud and scream, went rushing in and there she was lying on her side at the bottom of the ladder on the carpet.  She screamed for an hour, I didn't see any swelling and thought maybe it was her head?  Brad was on his way home from work when it happened and we tried everything we knew she like to calm her down.  Not much worked and she held her right arm close to herself and wouldn't use it.  UH oh we thought but nothing swollen is it a sprain?  Do we head to the ER again?  After my husband and neighbor gave her a sweet blessing, we felt like she would be OK until the morning and that we could take her to the doc's office if she still wasn't using her arm.  Next morning no using of the arm equalled a doctors visit which has an ex-ray machine in his clinic so we were able to fin out with in the hour that she had indeed broken her collar bone.  I saw it, it looks bad.  I thought oh crap they are gonna have to do something to help her.  But the Doctor assured me "Babies grow so quick that bones heal faster and fused back together all on their own."  What?!  That's amazing a testament to the human body.  We got her a sling so she would keep her to herself and for the boys.  They didn't know which arm was hurt and we needed something to be a big reminder to them.  They have been amazing with her.

Still trying to play with toys the day after, she couldn't put pressure on her arm so she moved differently but we did help her a lot.  Now two and half weeks later and you can't tell that anything happened.
Here is hoping that we don't have any disasters in March!
