The Conversation this Morning.....

I hate potty training, there I said it for all of Internet world to know and deal with. But seriously there are mom's out there that have never had a problem,( yes I'm talking about you little sis) and then there is the breed that I come from. I should be The General of this breed, this group of women who have had to continually strive to get their child to put that little round bum on the "throne".
I've had moments of, even days of successes but never complete success. I've had Brady in his under ware but he has completely stopped trying to go. Just when I thought all my hard work had paid off. The next three months were filled with accidents, daily accidents so much so that I finally threw up my white flag and put him back in diapers.
And so I tried many different tactics, anything I have heard about I've tried, and failed. I feel like I should be in the army trying to win a war that I am just getting pounded on at every battle. The problem with my opposing force if you will, is that he knows how to go. Oh yes, if there is a moment when he goes on the potty he has started going and showed me with much pride how he can make himself "start and stop." When I try to ask why he does not want to go on the throne, he says " I don't want to."
So yesterday my sister helped me come up with a new tactic. Taking things away, take something a way and until he goes in the potty he does not get it back. So I pondered on this and wasn't sure how he'd take it. So last night I told him no computer or t.v. time until he went on the potty. It took 2 hours but he finally went on the potty! Yes, this gave me some hope maybe this would work. This morning I told him the same thing. To see what would happen. At 0900 hours the following took place:
Location: Brady, Garrett and I playing in Brady's bedroom.
The smell: A number 2 coming from Garrett's lovely bottom.
The action: me changing the diaper.
The conversation:
Brady: Mom I have to go potty! (Runs out of the room and into the bathroom)
Me: OK go go, do you need help? (Trying to finish up Garrett so I can go and help Brady.)
Brady: I did it!!!
I run into the bathroom, and see a very happy boy sitting on the potty with a dry diaper on the floor. He had pooped! I throw my hands in the air and squeal with delight!
Me: Yea!!!!!
Brady: THAT WAS THE BEST POOP EVERRRRR!!!!
I started laughing too, and helped him on his way to play on the computer. We won that battle, now lets see about the rest of the war....
Right before lunch I told him we needed to go potty and then lay down for a nap. He went to the bathroom and sat on the potty. The diaper he handed me was warm! I asked him if he had just gone in the diaper and he shook his head and said yes. GRRRRRR!!! When will we get there? Who knows but at least he made me laugh earlier so I didn't want to strangle him for going as we were walking to the bathroom. Some kids are so stink'n stubborn!

I understand your pain. I can finally say we have more success than accidents at our house. You can do it and so can Brady! Yipee for going potty on the throne.

Just be consistent and patient and it will happen. He will love this story when he's a teenager:)

Potty training . . . sigh. They're all different in how they respond to it. I guarantee you he will not be in diapers when he goes to kindergarten . . . he really won't! In the meantime, may the force be with you! Love, Sandra
