Thank You.

Dear Family of the Fallen Ones,
My wonderful Father asked me what I was going to do during this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. I replied simply, " Oh Brad gets to stay home so we will probably hang out and go to some BQQ's." He wisely said, "Yes but how are you going to teach your boys about this weekend?" It made me stop and think how will I teach my two young boys about why we have this extra "vacation day". You see I don't know any of you, there are not any men in my family that have had the opportunity to serve our country like your men did. And I do not personally know any family of a fallen soldier. But I partake in the
blessings of your sacrifice every day. So I NEED
to tell you THANK YOU, and to your families.
I have a rose bush outside my three year old bedroom window. When we woke up today I wanted him to teach him about you. I saw that we had 2 roses bloom already this year. And then it hit me how I could teach my three year old about YOU. We went out in the rain and cut them out of the bush. We drove to the memorial park and found the wall with the names of those of you who gave an ultimate price for our country.

I told my son about the "good guys" and how they have protected us. How they went and fought the bad guys. He said, "The bad guys not shoot me?" And I said no the good guys they kept us safe. It was raining when we went to the park. I thought how you might have sat in rain and other unfortunate places to keep our families safe. And again I just wanted to say Thank you.
Thank you for being brave, for watching out for us who can't save ourselves. I thank your mothers who raised you to be brave and your fathers for being good role models. I wanted to
recognize that you lost someone who was invaluable
to you and the pain it must have caused you
I would not want to endure it. I want you to
know that today I taught my boys the best
that I could about saying Thank you to those
who helps us and protect us. So again THANK
YOU.

Dana, you don't know me, but I grew up with Brad in Cincinnati. I just wanted to say thank you for teaching the next generation about this day. My kids have to learn the hard way...their daddy is currently in Iraq. It is so nice to know that other people still take the time to teach the next generation why we remain free. =)

I love your post. I have many family members who have served in the military as well as serve here as police officers. What an important reminder to teach our children of the brave men and women who serve and have served our country.
