Race for the Cure

This past Saturday as a family we went to our local Race for the Cure event. And an event it was! I ran in the 5K race while, Brady did the kids dash and Garrett did the kids crawl! There were 500 people in my race. But the big race was the noncompetitive one that families could do together, there were 14,000 people in that race and they raised 900,000 dollars! Way to go little old Arkansas!
They had tons of booths with things to sample and given away afterwards. It was for a good cause which always makes a person feel good. I don't know anyone who has BREAST cancer but I know two people who are currently fighting CANCER. My cousin who is the same age as me (20 right?) found out she had cancer while pregnant with her 3 child. She was able to have the baby and beat it, but this January its back and she is getting treatment. Catie can do it she is strong, and has much support. My friend's little sister Lindsey is fighting right now and this is her THIRD round, with her cancer. She is about to have a bone marrow transplant by my friend (her older sister) Melissa. Good luck to both of them!
I took tons of pictures while were there so I made a slide show. But I also wanted to post about Garrett. So keep scrolling down after the slide show.

Garrett is our 9 month old, he is just starting to crawl, well army crawl to be exact. And after much fun at the races we were getting ready to go when I saw the HUGGIES TENT. OHHHHHH I thought maybe they are giving away a diaper or wipes, so I say to myself lets go check it out. There was a tent and under it a table with some nice women standing there handing out small packages of baby wipes. Score! I got some then she asked me if our baby could crawl. I said "Wellllllll, kind of.... not very fast. why?" She told me that they were going to have a "race" for them in 15 mins. if we wanted to participate. I looked at Garrett who had just woken up from a 20 min. cat nap. He looked strong, so I gave him the pep talk. "Garrett, I tell him you are a chunk, but don't worry you are strong too!" Lets see the course, I put him on the pink mat. Its 8 and half feet long. He immediately starts crawling in circles.........this isn't looking to promising. Then we see the competition, its a little boy who as soon as he hits the mat he takes off. It was a devastating blow as Garrett tries to eat the dirt on the mat, no longer interested in racing. The lady then comes over and asks me to sign a WAVIER! It states I won't sue in case of death! DEATH! I'm getting more concerned by the moment. But I also see on the waiver that the first place winner gets a box of diapers. That pumps me up. So there are 4 babies in his heat. The fast kid I want to trip "accidentally" and a little girl who looks as interested as Garrett and a baby that I wasn't sure could even move. So we line them up and Brad and Brady are on the other side of the mat trying to convince Garrett to crawl towards them. The lady yells go! And off goes the fast little boy, Garrett just moves a little at a time and stopping then brilliance hits me. Garrett loves playing with the camera so I put it in front of him like bait. It works. He starts to take off but so does the other little girl, by this time the boy crosses the line so we are going to see who makes the second place. Garrett is ahead for a minute but then she starts to gain on him. And then its neck and neck and 6 inches from the line, they STOP! Both of them just starting at these yelling adults who look like lunatics! Garrett finally with all of his might slaps the finish line! Yes! I was so happy! The lady's there congratulated us and took the top 3 winners pictures. And Garrett won 3 boxes of wipes and a coupon for a free BOX of Diapers! Yes! Then I found out why Garrett was stopping so much I picked up him and his toe was BLEEDING! I felt so bad, we had sacrificed his body for diapers and wipes! What kind of crazy parent am I? What will I be like when he can officially play sports? I hope that I learn from this and I won't push to hard when it comes time for him to play sports as a kid.

This is too funny. I'm sure he'll forgive you for the toe bleeding thing, but I still don't understand WHAT made it bleed??? Poor guy. :D

Loved the slide show! Those are the cutest boys ever. I think maybe your boys have thin skin toes. Remember last summer when Brady's toes kept bleeding when we went swimming at the pool? Give all the little piggies (toes) kisses from Nana.

Excellent recap. I felt like I wass there. And now he's crawling! Adam is so close, but isn't going to be winning any wipes or diapers anytime soon.

Dana, thanks for running and remembering Lindsey. If all goes well we'll be transplanting at the end of May
