The Thomas Cake

This is Brady eating his birthday cake, yes I know he turned 3 last week but my sister in law said I should definitely show "the cake". First let me explain that this cake was well..........an ugly masterpiece. I think the idea of the cake is the masterpiece part, the makers of Thomas The Train came up with a cake pan that is shaped as Thomas. You make your cake, let it cook and then flip it over you get to see the cake shape even with details so that you know where to frost the cake. This is where my downfall came into play. Brady wanted so badly to have a Thomas cake and who am I to shatter the dreams of a three year old? If he wants the cake I'll try my best to deliver. And yes, mom that is a toy on top of his head that is suppose to be a birthday hat. He can make anything into a hat and I forgot to get him one so he could have it when he blew out the candles. Don't judge me people its my first time, you remember yours right?

OK back to this cake. It turned out great. Now all I had to do was frost the stink'n thing. Now remember I'm pretty much willing to try new things so I'm thinking how hard can it be? Pride cometh before the fall people, it was the PRIDE!!! Here I am getting out my tools (frosting bag, tips, and the frosting itself) and then the worst thing happens. Brady and his sweet friend Annaliese wanted to WATCH me do it. OK no pressure they are small children, right? I start and I know immediately this is not going to end well. I tried my best but the frosting won and I couldn't control this stuff, its sticky, and has a mind of its own. So I got to the face and tried to use some black frosting to help with the eyes and all of the sudden Thomas because and evil train! Panic starts to rise in me and I call out to Brad for some moral support. He just says, Hon' its no big deal they don't even care. Not exactly what I had in mind. Then Brady's sweet friend says, "Don't worry I think the cake is BEAUTIFUL!" I could have kissed her, she knows how give me my ego boost. I didn't take a picture of the cake because I thought I'd spare everyone the horror but Brad took one while Brady was blowing out his three candles. Erin, (sister in law) you could definitely do this, your much better than I am, so I better see a cake for Landon this fall on your blog!

As I was reading I was expecting an unrecognizable Thomas. Not so! I think you did a great job. Looks like a good Thomas to me. The kids are happy. What more could you ask for? Brady cracks me up with his hats.
