We of course set out the cookies and milk for Santa, and sent them off to bed in new jammies. But five mins later Brady came out of his room full of concern. He walked over to the tree and said, "Mom we have to take that ornament off the tree", he pointed to an ornament that is shaped like a star but made out of hardened cookie dough. " Mom Santa will come and eat the cookies and then turn and look at the tree and see that one and EAT it!" I very carefully tried to reassure him that Santa will not eat ornaments off the tree. But he was not convinced, so I took it off and hid it on top of the fridge. Only when he was sure that Santa wouldn't find it would he go back to bed. It made me laugh thinking of his concern for that ornament. I hope this part of Christmas will last a long time in our family.
Garrett on the other hand did NOT want Santa to come to our house. He thought that he would have to see him again, and he was scared of him. The mall experience was still fresh in his head and he would not sit on his lap. So he ran to his bed and pulled the covers up over his head and said, "I'm hiding." So we explained to him that Santa only comes when everyone is asleep. That he would leave him a gift under the tree. That idea was much better to him because he got a gift but he didn't have to see Santa.
Christmas Eve was such a fun time for our family, and the next was only going to get better.
