Big Elk River Trip

Some friends of ours asked us to go on a lazy river rafting trip in June. We had a blast! We dropped off the kids for the day at friends house and off we went to meet our comrades that would brave the river with us. We drove about 30 mins. into Missouri to get to our location Big River Camping/Rafting. We inspected the rafts, and slathered sunscreen onto our bodies. The guide said he would drive us to the river and would drop us off, and another van would pick us up about 4 miles down river. Easy right?
Well we got on no problem and began to relax and enjoy each other's company. After a while we got hungry and we stopped off and ate our lunches that we packed, and again was enjoying ourselves quite nicely. I was telling Brad how we could bring our 4 year old out here is was so fun and he could handle it. Then just around the bend we came upon Spring Break gone WILD! At least a hundred people with many rafts roped together sat in the river drinking, smoking and acting like they were at Mardi Gras. Many girls were "earning" their beads that were draped around their necks and many people we passed offered us drinks. We politely declined, and at one point my husband muttered "I don't know where to look" because so many girls were acting out. And let me just say these girls were not super models that would normally entice a guy to look in her direction. As one of my friends said, "Some women should just NOT wear Bikinis." Then I looked up and saw the guy with a thong on, just what I needed to see! So with out much discussion we paddled far down the river to get away from them. Then proceed to over shoot our stopping point by 4 miles! The man did not mention that the sign on the river would NOT say Big Elk River Camping Stopping point. So we totally passed it! We had fun just talking and splashing each other and didn't see where we were suppose to get off. We got off at another stop and they called them for us, apparently we weren't the only ones we were the second group that day that had over shot it as well.

All in all it was great fun, but my son WILL NOT be allowed on that river anytime soon. Next year we are going to go again but maybe try and explore a different river. Any takers on wanting an adventure? Part of our crew before we left.
